If you were forced to put all your cash in a single stock and hold it for 50 years, what company would I choose?
What's your choice? Is it Apple? Nah, not for me. Remember Blackberry or Nokia? Apple might possibly turn into blackberry within the next 10-20 years. Yeah, do you remember (it was not that long ago) when Blackberry was the king of the “must have” cell phones? That sweet keypad, which could motor through emails and text messages. Is BBRY still making phones? IDK, but Apple doesn't even crack my top ten.
What about Nike? Ohhh, I kind of like that choice. People will always need shoes! NKE is a beast that has been at the top of the athletic apparel game for a long long-long time. If you had invested in the company when it went public in the '80s, well, I'd likely find you on a beach somewhere in the Bahamas enjoying a mint julep while watching the sunset. Yup, you'd have a boatload of cash!
Will Nike be around in 50 years? With the money the company has, they are likely to continue to sign the best athletes in the world for decades to come. I believe Nike to be a very good bet, BUT, trends can change fast, therefore, it’s not my #1 pick.
Boeing? Another crusher, which was founded by William Boeing. Remember that guy? Yeah, me neither, since it took place IN THE YEAR 1916! Wow! This company wasn't my #1 choice, however, after looking at the history of BA, maybe it should be. In this industry, the barrier to entry is extremely high, therefore, competition is nonexistent.
Unless Elon Musk creates that underground hyperloop that he occasionally speaks about, I'm guessing that Boeing planes and it's stock will continue to fly high for some 50 to come...
Who else? Who are you going with? Think about it for a moment...
Amazon? Budweiser? Ford? Google? Microsoft? Are any of these your #1 or make the top 10 list?
It's tough for me to pick a tech stock, as the industry moves and changes at such a rapid pace. The companies, which are dominating their particular industry today, might be left far behind in the not so distant future.
Are we thinking of the same company yet?
The winner is.....
Yup, if I was forced to put all my cash into 1 single stock for the next 50 years, I'm betting on DISNEY! No question! The company has developed into a behemoth that has created an iconic brand that has been around since 1923. They are the definition of a conglomerate that is well diversified and has multiple revenue streams.
Why do I like Disney so much:
1. The own the Star Wars brand.
2. Dominate the box office.
3. Own ESPN.
4. Their theme parks will always be a cash cow.
5. Sell absurdly popular toys, merchandise and apparel.
6. Pay dividends
7. Recurring revenue from ESPN plus.
8. Upside potential after the launch of their new television streaming service.
Ok, so that's it, my #1 choice. Obviously, I would never put all my eggs in one basket. But owning Disney should be considered in any well balanced long-term holding portfolio. For me, it's a stock I plan to give to my son, some 20 years down the road. In doing so, I'm confident it will have increased in value by a very large amount when that time comes.
OK, that's all I have for you today guys. Leave a comment and let me know what company you would choose. I would love to hear. Gl with your investments, talk to ya soon!
